Showing the aftereffects of nationwide fuel-conservation measures, a mild winter, inflation, and consumer resistance, sales of LP-gas and ethane rose a meager 0.4% in 1973 to 25.9 billion gal. LP-gas sales declined 4.9% in residential--commercial, 4.7% in internal-combustion, and 2.6% in industrial markets. On the other hand, sales to gas utilities increased 13.9%, agricultural sales grew 60%, and chemical sales 6%. Exports dropped 13.2% to 418 million gal, of which Mexico accounted for 383 million. By type, propane sales in 1973 reached 13.5 billion gal, ethane 5 billion, butane 2.7 billion, and butane--propane mixtures 978 million.
