We suggest an analytic model for the triton asymptotic {ital D} to {ital S} normalization ratio {eta}{sup {ital t}} and the closely related {ital D}-state parameter {ital D}{sub 2}{sup {ital t}}. This model explains correlations among {ital D}{sub 2}{sup {ital t}}/{eta}{sup {ital d}} and {ital E}{sub {ital t}} and among {eta}{sup {ital t}}/{eta}{sup {ital d}} and {ital E}{sub {ital t}} in three-nucleon calculations, where {eta}{sup {ital d}} is the deuteron asymptotic {ital D} to {ital S} normalization ratio and {ital E}{sub {ital t}} is the triton binding energy. The model yields numerical values of {eta}{sup {ital t}}/{eta}{sup {ital d}} and {ital D}{sub 2}{sup {ital t}}/{eta}{sup {ital d}} in close agreement with results of dynamical three-nucleon calculations. We conclude that {eta}{sup {ital d}}, {ital E}{sub {ital t}}, and other low energy on-shell nucleon-nucleon observables determine the triton asymptotic {ital D}-state parameters within an estimated error of 15%.
