Oil and gas developments in Kansas during 1965

Crude oil production in 1965 was 104,658,333 bbl. An estimated 20.9% of the oil was produced by secondary recovery methods. Natural gas production totaled 808.8 billion cu ft (14.65 psia). The Hugoton Gas Area produced 574 billion cu ft, about 71% of the total. Eighty-seven new fields were discovered during 1965: 78 found oil, 8 were gas fields, and 1 field had both oil and gas production. Rosalia Field, in Butler County, was the most significant discovery. Ness County led in total new field discoveries. An estimated 4,356 holes were drilled in the State during the year. Of the recorded completions, 1,458 produced oil, 208 were gas wells, 11 produced both oil and gas, 1,504 (327 wildcats) were dry holes, and 425 were saltwater disposal wells or wells used as input wells in secondary recovery operations. Estimated proved reserves at the end of 1965 included 751.6 million bbl of crude oil and 200.3 million bbl of natural gas liquids. Estimated proved reserves of natural gas were more than 16.6 trillion cu ft. (28 refs.)
