Industrial hygiene walk-through survey report of Lord Corporation, Chemical Products Group, Sagertown, Pennsylvania

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6413134
In order to determine possible occupational exposure to acrylates or methacrylates at the Saegertown facility of Lord Corporation located in Saegertown, Pennsylvania, a walk through industrial hygiene survey was conducted. Radiation-curable coatings are produced at the facility along with oligomers containing multifunctional acrylates. The facility employed 162 workers at the time of the survey. One case of illness due to the use of multifunctional acrylates was reported in the past 2 years. This was due to a spill of a small quantity of radiation-curable coating on the shoes of a dispersion equipment operator, and the subsequent development of blisters on the tops of both feet. The authors note that the wearing of spats on shoes may protect against spills when handling acrylates.
