Industrial-hygiene walk-through survey report of Loctite Corporation, Newington, Connecticut

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5675262
A walk-through industrial-hygiene survey was conducted at the Loctite Corporation facility located in Newington, Connecticut in order to evaluate possible employee exposure to acrylates or methacrylates used at the facility. Methacrylate-based anaerobic-curing adhesives have been formulated at the facility since 1968. Difunctional methacrylates were most often used and were, in most cases, purchased from outside companies. There was some on-site manufacturing of methacrylate monomers in enclosed vessels with local exhaust ventilation at the point sources. Enclosed vessels were also used to formulate the intermediate high-viscosity oligomers and the adhesive products. Of the 70 employees at the facility, 47 had potential exposure to methacrylates during manufacturing operations. No air monitoring had been conducted at the company. A few cases of dermatitis have occurred due to exposure to methacrylates. A safety program was in place at the firm and there were records for all employees.
