British Gas Corp. has expanded the compressor capacity at its St. Fergus, Scotl., receiving terminal to 139,000 hp in order to boost the pressure of the incoming Frigg field gas from 600 to 1000 psi at a maximum flow rate of 1.6 billion cu ft/day and gain operating experience with a new, uncommissioned gas generator that may succeed older models on the transmission system. The trial ERB1-RB211 package is a 25,000 hp unit capable of handling 630 million cu ft/day with a thermal efficiency of almost 34%. Having recently ordered two of the RB211's for its northern line, British Gas appears to favor the new engines for high horsepower applications.
