Women's place in a no-growth society

The author questions whether the interests of women--as an identifiable societal group competing increasingly in commerical and professional markets--will be served by a society espousing a limits-to-growth philosophy. She does so in one of the first public discussions of the issue to be seen anywhere. With more women than ever entering the job market or seeking employment, the economy as a whole will have to undergo steady and continued expansion if all those seeking work are to be accommodated. An assumption that underlies this discussion is that the U.S. cannot maintain its current level of employment and standard of living if it substantially cuts back on energy development and pursues a policy of limited growth.
