Inspection of the newly-built DHD chamber at Poelitz on April 13 and 14, 1942 (in German)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6410318
Operation of the chamber for dehydrogenation of gasoline to produce a gasoline enriched in aromatics is discussed. The specific operating conditions, including pressures, temperatures, throughputs, properties of starting materials, itemized time outline for regeneration of catalyst, etc., are considered. The chamber operated with a throughput of 0.4 kg/liter/hr of starting material consisting of a mixture of gasolines (40% originally from petroleum and 60% originally from coal and pitch) with boiling range 80/sup 0/ to 175/sup 0/. The cutoff point for distillation of product was determined in such a way as to make 6% of the product consist of material boiling over 165/sup 0/C. The chamber was able to achieve operating times of over 100 hours between periods of regeneration of catalyst. Operating pressures were about 35 atm. The variability of amount of coke deposition on the catlyst, and consequently of regeneration time, among the three reaction ovens and one refining oven of the chamber is considered. The (endothermic) heat of reaction was quite variable, depending on pressure, temperature, and throughput; the heat of reaction could also be used as a measure of the amount of catalyst activity remaining during an operating period. The apparatus for the chamber and the procedure to be followed in starting its operation are discussed along with methods of analysis or separation of products. 1 table.
