This article presents the remote roof bolting program developed under the auspices of the US Bureau of Mines. The program is described from the initial development of the roof bender/inserter and flexible drills through two remote manual roof bolters. Remote manual bolting dramatically reduces the risks while enhancing the operator's capabilities and improving the economic efficiency of continuous mining.
