The Electricity Consumers Resource Council (ELCON) is an organization of industrial users of electricity who advocate policies to assure that electricity will be available to all consumers at fair rates. ELCON recognizes that industrial electricity consumers must shoulder their fair share of the cost of providing electric energy, while joining efforts to solve electricity-related problems. The organization's members are pledged to provide for public consideration, wherever it may be useful, accurate and impartial information about electric energy pricing and supply. A wide range of relevant research is being conducted by ELCON and resulting data have been published in the hope that, with such information, answers can be developed which relate to the true causes of national, state, and local electricity questions and which are equitable to all. In this volume are profiles of electricity use for each of the 50 states. A standard format presents, for each state, information on utility regulation, electricity prices, expenses, generation, consumption, growth, manufacturers purchases, and rate-design initiatives. Following the state listings is a statistical summary which, in six tables, summarizes the data on price, fuel cost, growth, and customer use and ranks each of the 50 states from the highest to the lowest in each category. Data were collected only for Class A and B privately owned utilities. No data are available for Nevada. The comparative data for the U.S. represent an aggregate of 182 privately owned utilities.
