Audits have limits

Utilities are increasing their social responsibilities in helping their customers make sure their homes are properly insulated, but such help has limits. The author disagrees with the Consumer Product Safety Commission suggestion that home energy auditors conduct safety and health assessments in conjunction with audits for conservation measures and solar and wind devices. It is pointed out that there is a limit for what the auditors can be trained to do, and the author questions what the electric utilities can reasonably be expected to pay for or subsidize. (JMT)
