On the basis of the rigorous three-body theory we study within the framework of the method of integral equations the problem of Coulomb proton scattering by the deuteron. The nuclear interaction between the bound nucleons is described with the help of an s-wave separable potential. We derive equations which determine the effective potential of the proton-deuteron interaction and the corresponding scattering amplitude. We show that the Coulomb rescattering of charged particles (protons) leads to appearance of a number of long-range terms in the effective pd interaction potential. We find that the long-range effects of Coulomb rescattering cancel partially. Because of this in the polarization potential there are no long-range terms decreasing as rho/sup -2/ and rho/sup -3/ at infinity.
