Switch built for reactive applications at ehv

An EPRI R and D project has developed a device specifically designed to meet the need of utilities to switch shunt reactors and capacitors at the 550-kV voltage level. The interrupter and switch design can be expanded to other ratings in the ehv voltage range, from 242 through 800 kV. It uses single-pressure SF/sub 6/ interrupter units, two of which are required for use at 550 kV. A prototype is currently being field-tested.
