Dispersion method of sand consolidation

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6396228
A dispersion method of sand consolidation consists of mixing a consolidating solution such as a liquid resin, sodium silicate, or other suitable consolidating solution, in a low viscosity non-miscible fluid, such as diesel oil or the like, adding a dispersing agent when needed, and then pumping the fluid into the formation. The viscosity of the non-miscible fluid should not exceed about 5-10 cp at a normal room temperature and pressure. The ratio of consolidating material to the oil carrying fluid is preferably less than 1:4. In the dispersion, small drops of consolidating material and oil alternate in entering the sand body. This results in a continuous placement and displacement of the consolidating material into the formation, and the probability of mechanically washing all of the consolidating material from the sand grains is practically nil.
