The World Coal Study (WOCOL) was an international project involving eighty people from sixteen major coal producing and consuming countries. The WOCOL was organized to learn whether coal could replace oil in meeting increased energy needs for future economic growth and to determine what it would take to bring about such a transition. The conclusions of (WOCOL) are found in the report COAL - Bridge to the Future (Cambridge, MA: Ballinger Publishing Co., 1980). Here the principal findings and assumptions which shaped those conclusions, are given.
