Neutron logging time spectral data acquisition system and method

This patent describes a well logging operation. A method of continuously accumulating over discrete time intervals counts of the impingement of gamma radiation upon first and second gamma radiation detector means, comprises: cyclically energizing a neutron source for pulsatingly irradiating a subsurface earth formation; generating a sequentially incremented channel signal in response to each of the discrete time intervals following the energizing of the source; generating detection signals in response to impingement of gamma radiation upon the first and second detector means, such that the detection signals distinguish between the impingement upon the first and second detector means; correlating each of the detection signals with the channel signal. The channel signal corresponds to one of the discrete time intervals wherein the gamma radiation impinged upon the first or second detector means.
