Condensate overflow control for furnace

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6382001
This patent describes a domestic forced air condensing furnace including a blower for forcing all of the combustion products and condensate to an outlet conduit. The outlet conduit connects to a condensate trap and a vent, and a pressure sensor to detect the negative pressure created by the blower and a decrease in the negative pressure cause by a vent blockage. The improvement comprises: a float means positioned in the condensate trap arranged to block the outlet conduit when the condensate in the trap increases to an undesirable level and to remain clear of the outlet conduit when the condensate level is below the undesirable level; the pressure sensor detects a rise in the condensate level when it reaches the undesirable level due to blockage of the outlet conduit by the float means.
