The use of zeolites in treating saturated hydrocarbons to remove unsaturates was examined. The index of adsorption was calculated, based on the basic characteristics of the adsorbent and of the hydrocarbon system being separated. The equation to determine the quantity of unsaturated carbons sorbed by unit weight of adsorbent from the feed is shown. After examining values of hydrocarbons removed from naphtha and cyclohexane for NaX zeolite, the method of calculating the specific weight of feed treated by the adsorbent before regeneration yielded results quite close to the experimental values.
