Aqueous explosive slurrie (sic) with inorganic peroxide sensitizer
Explosive slurries are described which contain an oxidizing salt, an organic fuel, a metallic fuel, a thickening agent, water, and a sensitizing amount of an inorganic peroxide. The peroxide counteracts the desensitizing effect which mixing generally has on such slurries. The inorganic peroxides may be hydrogen peroxide or alkali metal peroxides, e.g., sodium peroxide, potassium peroxide, lithium peroxide, etc. The preferred peroxide is hydrogen peroxide. The inorganic peroxide is generally employed in a sensitizing amount. A sensitizing amount is a concentration sufficient to provide a slurry which has approx. the same or greater sensitivity to detonation after mixing or filling operations than it had before such operations. The desired sensitivity will vary with various types of explosive slurries. A concentration of inorganic peroxide of 0.005 to 0.5% by wt of the slurry is generally a sensitizing amount. (4 claims)
