Carbon number distributions in Fischer--Tropsch synthesis can be modeled fairly accurately by modified versions of the Flory equation. The modifications allow for cracking of products, reincorporation of ethylene by chain initiation and propagation, branching selectivity, and variation of chain growth probability with chain length. An example of a hypothetical (and very optimistic) case is shown.
