The Cool Water integrated coal gasification combined cycle program - status and results

Conference · · Proc., Am. Pet. Inst., Refin. Dep.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6366725
The Cool Water Plant, located at Southern California Edison Company's generating station at Daggett, California, has been in operation since May 1984. The facility features two versions of Texaco coal gasification that will be operational in 1985 and are coupled to General Electric's combined cycle generating equipment. This paper reviews the design of the IGCC plant and summarizes its mechanical and operational performance and the lessons learned from this pioneering demonstration facility. Based on the test program that is being carried out, environmentally superior, economically competitive commercial IGCC plants which complete with alternate coal fired plants and other advanced coal technologies in utility applications can proceed with confidence on a firm information data base.
