Letters to the editor/LNG vs. methanol

Journal Article · · Chem. Eng. Prog.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6365409
Should methanol be imported into the U.S., and on the basis of a comparison of the toxicity, flammability, and corrosivity of LNG and methanol, governmental regulations on the transport, storage, and handling of methanol will require safety and design standards at least equal to those governing LNG; and that a methanol ''well-head-to-consumer'' project would involve capital costs twice those of a similar LNG project, with operating costs being 3.5-4.5 times higher.
