Electron-tunneling studies on the superconducting (La sub 1 minus x Sr sub x ) sub 2 CuO sub 4 and YBa sub 2 Cu sub 3 O sub y systems

We report the results of tunneling measurements on (La{sub 1{minus}{ital x}}Sr{sub {ital x}}){sub 2}CuO{sub 4} and {ital R}Ba{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub {ital y}} ({ital R}=Y,Er,Gd) at several {ital x} and {ital y} values having various {ital T}{sub {ital c}}'s. The ratios 2{Delta}/{ital kT}{sub {ital c}} are 4.5--4.9 for (La{sub 1{minus}{ital x}}Sr{sub {ital x}}){sub 2}CuO{sub 4} and 3.3--4.2 for {ital R}Ba{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub {ital y}}. The shapes of the tunneling density of states, anisotropies of the gaps, and temperature dependences of the gaps are also discussed.
