Recovery of benzene in scrubbers with an increased coke-oven-gas feed

A study has been made of the recovery of benzene hydrocarbons in scrubbers with wooden chord packing 4 m in diameter and a coke-oven-gas throughput of up to 78,000 m/sup 3//h. The average benzene--hydrocarbon losses with the return gas were 1.6 g/m/sup 3/, the coefficient of pure benzene absorption was 0.136 kg/(m/sup 2/ h mm Hg), and the average scrubber resistance was 440 mm H/sub 2/O. It was shown that scrubbers with chord packing can be used for recovery of benzene with coke-oven-gas throughputs of up to 200,000 m/sup 3//h.
