Computer sets station guidelines

Management information systems (MIS) and technical services departments at Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Co. have developed a computer program, MULTI-STAGE, designed to aid engineers in the process of defining, selecting, and operating reciprocating gas compressors as efficiently as possible. The first part of this two-part series on the design and use of MULTISTAGE appeared last week. It discussed the first two of three automated portions of the analysis procedure: determination of optimal compressor configuration and assessment of compressor specifications. Preparing the operating guidelines for the compressor unit constitutes the final step in compressor modeling and analysis and is discussed in this concluding article. Panhandle Eastern engineers produce the bulk of these guidelines by using the MULTI-STAGE program. The resulting collection of reports and graphs is assembled into a ''curve package'' and sent to field personnel responsible for compressor operation and maintenance.
