The 1981 level of drilling activity for all 3 CSD districts covered in this report (Arkansas, north Louisiana, east Texas) surpassed the 1980 level, to reach the highest point in the past 10 years. All 3 districts had increases in both exploratory and development drilling. Success ratios for exploratory drilling decreased slightly in Arkansas and in east Texas, but remained the same in north Louisiana. Both east Texas and Arkansas had increases in development drilling success, while north Louisiana's development drilling success declines.
