Thermal recovery. Pt. 1. The steamflood job: Hefner in Sho-Vel-Tum
Shell Oil Co. has been conducting a steam drive in the Tatums sector of Sho-Vel-Tum field in southern Oklahoma for 2 yr. One project is located on the Hefner lease which produces from several horizons of Pennsylvanian age. The horizon under steamflood is the Des Moines Zone VIII sand, which is approximately 50 ft thick with 28% porosity and 500 md air permeability. The reservoir dips steeply (45$) to the SW. and is bounded updip by an erosional unconformity and downdip by a relatively stable oil-water contact. Depth to the top of the sand ranges from 850 to 2,000 ft within the 60-acre Hefner flood area. Allocation of production from the Hefner lease to the Zone VIII horizon indicates that this zone had an oil saturation of 78% at the start of the flood with oil in place estimated at 5 million bbl. The oil in Zone VIII is 13$-15$ API gravity and has a viscosity of 1,600 cp at the reservoir temperature of 75$F. The flood was designed as a line drive using 4 injection wells drilled near the unconformity and 20 producing wells. Completion practices on the new wells drilled for the steam project include cementing the casing to the surface with silica-flour cement. The wellhead connections are flexible and contain a swing joint assembly to absorb expansion.
