A summary of environmental legislation passed by the 95th Congress indicates good progress for environmental protection in spite of its failure to pass the Alaska lands bill and the Solar Energy Development Act. The legislation passed dealt with wilderness areas, parks and rivers, energy, pollution, public works, urban issues, and species protection. The major bills passed were the Endangered American Wilderness Act, the National Energy Act, Clean Air Act Amendments, Water Pollution Control Act, and the Endangered Species Act. Congress complied with the President's veto of unnecessary dam construction and with the need for urban self-help programs.
