TVA undecided on best feed system for AFBC

After operating its 20mw atmospheric fluidized bed combustion plants at Paducah, Kentucky, far more than 5500 hours, the Tennessee Valley Authority is still not sure about the best way to feed coal into the boiler. More than 900 hours of testing have been completed with overbed feeding; the undecided system has been tested for more than 4300 hours. TVA is not going to decide which of the feed systems is best, instead it will be left up to the boiler manufactures bidding for the contract to build the steam generator for the proposed 160 mw AFBC at Paducah to justify the advantages of the system they select.
