Torsional vibration absorbing system for vehicular power transmission

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6340619
A torsional vibration absorbing device is described for a transmission having an input shaft and an output shaft with pairs of interengaging gears selectively coupled to the shafts for different speed ratios. The combination consists of: sleeve shaft means rotatably mounted on one of the shafts and having at least one of the gears for rotation; sleeve shaft means having a tubular axial extension with an internal spline radially spaced from the one shaft; a sleeve encircling the one shaft axially adjacent the extension and also having an internal spline radially spaced from the one shaft; external spline means on the one shaft; friction plates positioned in the sleeve with alternate plates having teeth for engaging the spline in the one shaft; and a pair of annular cam plates with circumferentially spaced and mating cam teeth projecting axially toward each other.
