The purpose of this work was to study the interaction of a molten KVO/sub 3/-V/sub 2/O/sub 5/ catalyst (25 wt. % V/sub 2/O/sub 5/) with refractory inorganic materials based on the oxides of silicon, aluminum, calcium, magnesium, and zirconium. A melt with the composition indicated displays catalytic activity in the process of the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene. The kinetic parameters of the dissolution of refractory inorganic materials based on silicon, aluminum, calcium, magnesium, and zirconium oxides in a KVO/sub 3/-V/sub 2/O/sub 5/ melt have been determined. The materials based on aluminum oxide, which does not interact chemically with the melt, are most stable. The dissolution of silicate materials containing calcium and magnesium oxides is accompanied by the destruction of their crystal lattices and the formation of vanadates. The reaction of zirconium oxide with the melt results in the formation of potassium zirconate on the surface of the material.
