Recent work on the hydrogen adsorption properties of Ti/sub 2/Ni-type intermetallic phases containing oxygen is summarized. Preliminary work on the first Ti/sub 2/Ni-type phase of composition A/sub 3/B/sub 3/O is presented. The hydrogen adsorption properties of the Zr-containing intermetallic compound Zr/sub 3/V/sub 3/O is compared to the hydrogen absorption properties of previously investigated Ti-containing compounds of composition Ti/sub 4/M/sub 2/O/sub x/ (M = Fe, Co, Ni; x = 0-1). The compound Zr/sub 3/V/sub 3/O has been found rapidly to absorb and desorb about 3 moles of hydrogen gas per mole of alloy. Enthalpies and entropies of solution are presented for nine different compositions of the hydride Zr/sub 3/V/sub 3/OH/sub y/. Further studies of the hydrogen absorption properties of Zr/sub 3/V/sub 3/O/sub x/ are in progress.
