The crystal structure of strontium hydroacetate was determined Sr(H/sub 2/O)/sub 2/(CH/sub 3/COO)/sub 2/-(H/sub 2/(CH/sub 3/COO)/sub 3/) (CAD-4-SDP, 2066 reflections, R = 0.053, R/sub w/ = 0.060, cell parameters a = 7.125(5), b = 9.206(2), c = 12.402(5) A, ..cap alpha.. = 106.79(2), ..beta.. = 92.78(4), ..gamma.. = 97.67(4)/sup 0/, space group Pl, Z = 2, V = 768(1) A/sup 3/, d/sub calc/ = 1.942(3) g/cm/sup 3/. The structure is made up of chains of SrO/sub 9/ polyhedra extending along (100). The chains form infinite two dimensional layers with molecules of water and acetate groups. These layers are linked to each other by van der Waals interactions. The polyhedron of the Sr atom is formed by seven O atoms from five acetate groups and two molecules of water, where two groups (Ac2 and Ac3) are bidentate and the remainder monodentate.
