Kinetics of acetylene hydrogenation on palladium deposited on alumina

The selective hydrogenation of acetylene on Pd has been the subject of many investigations. These have identified the specific features of both the reaction itself and the properties of palladium as a catalyst for the process. We have investigated the kinetics of the process, both on freshly-prepared catalysts and on steady-state catalysts stabilized under conditions of the industrial process for the hydrogenation of acetylene mixed with ethylene. The catalyst used consisted of 0.04 wt.% Pd on ..cap alpha..-Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/.
