The hydrogenation of acetylenic alcohols with various structures in the presence of palladium catalysts deposited on rare-earth oxides was studied. It was shown that the selectivity of the process is determined mainly by the nature of the support and by the structure of the acetylenic alcohols. The highest selectivity (78-91%, depending on the structure of the alcohols) is observed when the palladium is deposited on the oxides of rare-earth elements (Pr/sub 2/O/sub 3/ and Eu/sub 2/O/sub 3/) which have basic characteristics.
