We give results on the structure of Cu(II) complexes with anion-exchangers AN-221 x 12P, AN-84 x 7P, AN-21 X 12P, and AN-20 x 12P. We investigated their catalytic characteristics in the oxidation of 2,3,6-trimethylphenol with hydrogen peroxide. The results from ESR spectroscopic investigation of the state of the catalysts after oxidation show that the oxidation of 2,3,6-trimethylphenol by hydrogen peroxide in the presence of the Cu(II) complexes on the anion-exchangers is not accompanied by reduction of the Cu(II) ions but leads to rearrangement of the complexes. The rearrangement of the complexes brings about a gradual loss of catalytic activity during repeated use of the catalysts.
