Pulse-excited, auto-zeroing multiple channel data transmission system

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6332800

This patent describes a multiple channel data transmission system, comprising: data channels; each channel including a transducer for generating an output signal proportional to a variable to be measured in response to the application of a transducer excitation pulse; a transducer amplifier means for amplifying the output of the transducer in response to the application of an amplifier excitation pulse; a sample-and-hold circuit means for sampling and holding the output level of the amplifier means in response to a sample-and-hold strobe pulse applied; and an auto zeroing means for nulling the output of the amplifier means in response to an auto zero strobe pulse applied. A control means cyclically generates at a selected cycle rate the transducer excitation pulse; the amplifier excitation pulses; sample-and-hold strobe pulses and auto zero strobe pulses so that the amplifier means is excited for a preselected period during which the auto zero strobe pulse is generated. The transducer excitation pulse and the sample-and-hold strobe pulse generates during the transducer excitation pulse so that the value stored by the sample-and-hold circuit means is updated during each cycle of the control means, producing pseudo-continuous outputs from the sample-and-hold circuit means of each of data channels. A transmitter means includes a multiplexer means for continuously sampling the pseudo-continuous outputs of each of the data channels and multiplexing the signals onto a single channel to produce a modulated signal; and a means for receiving the modulated signal.
