A brief review of underground haulage in US coal mines shows that use of track haulage is declining in favour of conveyor belts which are now used by 85-90% of all underground mines. Information on drive systems and stage loaders is given. The paper is followed by an equipment guide to US manufacturers' products and a table detailing the principal belt conveyor troubles, their causes and cures.
