With today's innovations in underground mining, particularly since the introduction of the continuous miner, there have been many attempts to introduce continuous face haulage. While the most widely used means of transport are probably rail haulage, loaders/load-haul-dump units, and chain or belt conveyors, several new types of conveyors have been introduced to the marketplace over the last few years. None have really become popular, but some have generated serious interest. The developments in continuous face haulage are discussed.
