Synchronization of Q-switched YAG:Nd/sup 3 +/ laser by single picosecond pulse

A Q-switched YAG:Nd/sup 3 +/ laser is synchronized by a single picosecond pulse that is produced by passive mode locking. A nitrogen discharger triggered by optical radiation is used for synchronization. The voltage-pulse generator of the Q-switch of YAG:Nd/sup 3 +/ laser is triggered by the nitrogen discharger. The delay of the synchronized radiation relative to the picosecond pulse is, on the average, 25 nsec. A synchronization accuracy of +/-2 nsec is achieved.
