Process for the regeneration of metallic catalysts
A method for the regeneration of metallic hydrogenation catalysts poisoned by sulfur and/or carbon is claimed. The catalyst may be any of the metals, Ni, Rh, Pt, Ir, Pd, or Ru supported on a refractory oxide carrier such as ZrO/sub 2/ or Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/. The poisoned catalyst was contacted with oxygen gas in a concentration of about 1 to 10 ppM in an inert gas consisting of He, Ar, Xe, Kr, N/sub 2/ or air substantially free of oxygen. Regeneration was essentially complete when the total number of oxygen molecules passed through the poisoned catalyst bed was 10 to 20 times larger than the total number of hydrogen sulfide molecules supplied during the poisoning of the catalyst. The temperature of the catalyst bed was maintained in the range of about 300 to 500/sup 0/C during the regeneration. (BLM)
