Behavior of the eigenphase sum near a resonance

It is shown that for an isolated resonance in a multichannel problem the sum of the eigenphases delta/sub n/ satisfies the usual formula appropriate for the elastic phase shift: ..sigma../sub n/delta/sub n/ = ..delta../sup 0/ + tan/sup -1/ (GAMMA/2(E/sub 0/ - E)). The parameter GAMMA is the total width of the resonance.
