The ..lambda..p(/sup 3/S/sub 1/) resonance at E = 2054 MeV and the N..sigma..(/sup 3/S/sub 1/, I = 1/2) resonance at E = 2129 MeV are treated as members of the representations )8/sub a/) and )10) with a mixing angle thetanot =0. The exact value of theta is uniquely determined by the mass of the /sup 3/S/sub 1/ resonance in the ..sigma../sup +/..xi../sup 0/ system. A /sup 1/S/sub 0/ level is also predicted in the ..sigma sigma.. system (I = 2) near the ..sigma sigma.. threshold. It is shown that the Gell-Mann--Okubo mass formula is consistent with the existence of a large number of near-threshold states, in particular, in the ..lambda sigma.., N..xi.., and ..sigma xi.. systems.
