Natural gas industry in transition

Journal Article · · Energy J.; (United States)
As the US gas industry moves to a deregulated field market, it faces major issues of gas supply, gas price trends, and future demand in the light of today's international recession, depressed oil prices, and statutory restraints on gas use that were originally designed to alleviate a declining gas supply. The short-term US gas supply outlook is promising, with significant excess capacity relative to requirements. Given this excess supply, AGA predicts much slower burner-tip gas prices increases for 1982-87 than occurred in 1977-82. The most attractive emerging demand prospects are in gas-fired cogeneration, for select uses with coal, and as a vehicle fuel.
