Use of airborne microwave radiometry for the detection and investigation of oil slicks at sea
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:6321377
The principles underlying the detection of oil slicks by microwave radiometry are outlined and the results of tank trials and sea trials to assess radiometer performance are presented. The limitations of the technique in determining slick thickness are discussed and it is concluded that an operational system should only use the microwave technique in conjunction with other sensors.
