Title: Hydrogenation of 1,3-butadiene by cyclohexadiene (CHD) over CoS catalyst

Journal Article · · J. Catal.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6319418

A CoS catalyst tested was inactive for the hydrogenation of butadiene with hydrogen but active for butadiene hydrogenation with CHD at 240/sup 0/C. The butene isomer distributions obtained with 1,3-CHD and 1,4-CHD were nearly identical. The CHD also underwent disproportionation into benzene and cyclohexene. A study of changes in conversion and selectivity when deuterium, 1-butene, butadiene, 1,4-CHD, or benzene were added to the 1,4-CHD/butadiene reaction mixture suggested that butadiene and CHD compete for the same type of surface hydrogen atom which dissociated from adsorbed CHD, i.e., neither reaction involved direct hydrogen transfer.
