The method of plotting the anode volt-ampere curves with linear scanning of the potential and the method of coulometric measurements with the electrolysis in galvanostatic or potentiostatic conditions were used. The experiments were performed in an atmosphere of nitrogen. Polarization of the cell was effected with a P-5848 potentiostat. The volt-ampere curves and the current-time relationships were recorded on KSP-4 electronic potentiometer. The shapes of the anodic volt-ampere curves obtained from molybdenum and tungsten in nitrate-nitrite melts are shown. The distinct difference in the behavior of the molybdenum and the tungsten when sodium nitrite was added to the NaNo/sub 3/-KNO/sub 3/ melt was the pronounced shift of the steady-state potential into the region of the more negative values and the considerable increase in the currents in the region of the passive state of the metals.
