The authors have examined the reactions of molybdenum and tungsten with molten mixtures of KNO/sub 3/-NaNO/sub 2/ (up to 60 mole % NaNO/sub 2/) and KNO/sub 2/-NaNO/sub 2/ mixtures (66 mole % NaNO/sub 2/) at 443-673 K. Gravimetric corrosion-loss measurements were made in argon. Preliminary tests showed that nitrite added to a nitrate liquid alters the reaction. They used eutectic mixtures to examine the effects of temperature on the corrosion rate. The rates increased with temperature, being appreciably higher for tungsten as against molybdenum.
