A complex study was conducted into the structure, mechanism of formation, and the properties of glass-crystalline materials in the system consisting of sodium oxide, calcium oxide, boron oxide, aluminum oxide, zirconium oxide, and silicon oxide. On the basis of experimental data, high quality low zircon medium boron glaze LG-19 with an optimum structure, fired at 880 C and providing a coating with a light-scattering capacity of 415-490 cm/sup -1/, a whiteness of 80-85%, and a brilliance of 65-70% was obtained; it had good flow properties and was free from pinholes and other spatial defects. An analysis was made of materials for 13 enterprises in the ceramics industry, and composition LG-19 was taken as the basic composition for the development of a standard glaze. The glaze enables the reduced consumption of zirconium dioxide and boric compounds.
