A composition comprising a major proportion of a sulfide compound of the formula R/sup 1/SS/sub a/SR/sup 2/. R/sup 1/ and R/sup 2/ are independently alkyl, alkaryl, alkoxyalkyl or hydroxyalkyl radicals wherein the alkyl moieties have from 1 to 24 carbon atoms, a is the average number of internal sulfur atoms in the sulfide and ranges from 0 to 3, and, in an amount sufficient to improve the activity of the sulfide for sulfur uptake, at least one polyalkyleneoxyamine or polyalkleneoxypolyamine containing a primary or secondary amine functionality and wherein the alkylene radical is a substituted or unsubstituted radical having from 2 to 4 carbon atoms exclusive of a substituent group.
